To apply for an ETA online you must be outside Australia and intend to visit Australia for tourism or business visitor activities. You must have your passport, email address and a credit card to complete the online application.

Alternatively you can access the government website, register for free on it and ask for ETA/eVisitor.
(*) Note: You are not eligible to apply for the eVisitor if your only passport is a British National Overseas, British Dependent Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person or British Subject passport.
